Dr Margaret Trumble

Dr. Margaret Trumble, the founder of AAW+E, has been practicing emergency veterinary medicine since receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.

Dr. Margaret was born in Singapore but moved home with her parents to the New Orleans area when she was just 4 1/2 years old. After graduating from St. Martin's Episcopal High School in 1995, she attended Texas Tech University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Latin with a minor in Chemistry in 1999. Upon graduation, she moved back home and spent 4 years teaching high school Latin and Biology, coaching the swim team, and mentoring the National Honor Society. During this time, she met her amazing husband, Josh, and adopted a tiny grey tabby, a step that would change the course of her life...

"I have had and loved animals since I was a little girl but it wasn't until I adopted my first pet of my own, a grey tabby named Panic, that I discovered I wanted to be a veterinarian. Panic was less than 3 weeks old when he was dropped off at a local veterinary hospital as a stray - when I went to adopt him, he fit in the palm of my hand. He seemed so small and helpless and I asked the veterinarian if he minded taking a few minutes to talk to me about how to give this little kitten the care he needed. He talked to me at length about what food to feed him, how to train him, when to bring him in for checkups and vaccines. His compassion and concern for his patients and their owners was so clear and by the end of our conversation, I knew that one day I wanted to be on the other side of that exam table doing the same for other people and their pets.

Witnessing the human/animal bond and having a chance to have a positive impact on that is by far the best part of my job. Seeing what people do for their animals and what animals do for their people emotionally always gets to me. Working in emergency medicine, I am able to support animals and the people who love them during some of the hardest of times. It is an amazing responsibility that I take very seriously and am very proud to be able to do.

The most rewarding accomplishment of my career so far is opening Avenue Animal Wellness + Emergency. I am very proud of what this hospital stands for, the medicine we practice, and our commitment to the health and happiness of the animals and people of New Orleans."
